Privacy Policy
1. About this policy
This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through recoverymap.com.au. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). By using the site or giving us your information, you agree to this policy.
RecoveryMap is a directory of recovery and longevity venues in Australia. We do not offer accounts, take bookings, or process payments. The personal information we hold is limited, and this policy reflects that.
2. What we collect
Information you give us:
- Newsletter signup. If you subscribe, we collect your email address.
- Venue claims and corrections. If you claim a listing or send a correction, we collect what you provide — typically your name, the venue, your role, and contact details.
- Enquiries. If you email or contact us, we collect your message and contact details.
Information we collect automatically when you use the site:
- Usage and device data. Pages viewed, approximate location inferred from IP, browser and device type, referring page, and similar analytics data.
- Outbound clicks. When you click through to a venue's website, tap to call, or tap for directions, we record that the click happened and which listing and page it came from. We use this to measure how much referral traffic each venue receives.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See section 4.
We do not collect device GPS location, run user accounts, or handle payment details at launch. If we add those later, we will update this policy first.
3. How we use your information
We use personal information to: operate, maintain, and improve the site and its listings; send you the newsletter if you subscribed; respond to your claims, corrections, and enquiries; measure referral traffic to venues; and keep the site secure and compliant with our legal obligations.
We report referral activity to venues in aggregate or de-identified form — for example, the number of website clicks a venue received in a period. We do not give venues your identity or contact details unless you contacted that venue through us and consented to it.
4. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to run the site and to understand how it is used. This includes [ANALYTICS PROVIDER, e.g. Google Analytics / Plausible], which may set its own cookies or identifiers. Analytics help us see which pages and modalities people use so we can improve them.
You can control or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the site work. Where we use an analytics provider that supports it, you can opt out via [OPT-OUT METHOD / LINK].
5. Direct marketing and email
We only send the newsletter to people who asked for it. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect promptly, consistent with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). We do not sell your email address or share it for others' marketing.
6. Who we share information with
We share personal information only as needed to run the site:
- Service providers that host the site, send our email, and provide analytics, acting on our instructions. These include [HOSTING PROVIDER], [EMAIL PROVIDER], and [ANALYTICS PROVIDER].
- Venues, in aggregate or de-identified referral reporting as described in section 3, or with your consent where you contacted a venue through us.
- Legal recipients, where we are required or authorised by law, or to protect our rights or someone's safety.
We do not sell personal information.
7. Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers store or process data outside Australia, including in [LIKELY LOCATIONS, e.g. the United States and the European Union]. Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps consistent with APP 8 to ensure it is handled appropriately. Using the site, or subscribing, indicates you consent to this disclosure.
8. Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, including access controls and reputable hosting. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires, then delete or de-identify it. Analytics and outbound-click data are kept in aggregate or de-identified form for trend and referral reporting.
9. Access and correction
You can ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing [PRIVACY EMAIL]. We will respond within a reasonable time, consistent with APP 12 and APP 13. We may need to verify your identity first. If we refuse access or correction, we will tell you why.
10. Children
The site is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Third-party sites
When you click through to a venue website or another third-party service, you leave RecoveryMap. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control and are not responsible for.
12. Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, email [PRIVACY EMAIL] and we will investigate and respond. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, and the effective date above shows when it last changed.
